City of Sydney offers residents a Bulky Waste Collection , but there are restrictions on what they’ll collect and when.
Here’s what you need to know

Council Cleanup:

  • Free weekly pickups available (no yearly limit)
  • Must book online each time by 2pm the day before collection
  • Maximum 1 cubic metre for (houses) or 4 cubic metres (apartments)
  • Must separate items into 3 groups (furniture, mattresses, metals/electronics)
  • Items can only be placed out the night before collection
  • Placing items out early = illegal dumping, fines apply

The 3 Groups (Separate Piles Required)

  • Furniture & bulky household items (wooden items, rugs, garden waste)
  • Mattresses & bed bases
  • Metals, whitegoods & electronics (fridges, TVs, computers, appliances)

What Council Accepts:

  • Mattresses (any size, any condition)
  • Furniture (tables, chairs, sofas, wardrobes, desks)
  • Whitegoods (fridges, washing machines, dryers – doors taped shut)
  • Electronics (TVs, computers, printers, small appliances)
  • Gym equipment (treadmills, weight benches, dismantled trampolines)
  • Garden waste (bundled and tied, branches max 1m long, 10cm thick)
  • Rugs (cut to 1m lengths, rolled and tied)

What Council Won’t Take:

  • Building or reno materials (bricks, tiles, timber, plasterboard, doors)
  • Carpet or underlay
  • Mirrors and glass items (including glass-top furniture)
  • Cement, stone or marble items
  • Car parts, tyres, batteries
  • Chemicals, paints, oils, gas bottles
  • Pianos
  • Items over 1.5m long or 100kg
  • Tree stumps, logs, branches thicker than 10cm
