Cumberland City Council offers residents a Council Clean up, but there are restrictions on what they’ll collect and when.
Here’s what you need to know

Council Cleanup:

  • 4 free collections per year (resets each calendar year)
  • Maximum 2 cubic metres per booking (about the size of 2 motorbikes parked side by side)
  • Must book at least 2 weeks in advance — online or by calling 02 8757 9000
  • Items must be placed neatly on the kerbside the night before collection
  • Extra collections available for $103 per booking (2025–2026 pricing)
  • Residential properties only — no commercial cleanups
  • Apartment bookings (6+ units) must go through building manager

What Council Accepts:

  • Furniture White goods (fridges, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves)
  • Mattresses Carpet and floor coverings (rolled up and tied)
  • Bundled tree and plant clippings under 2m in length

What Council Won’t Take:

  • Building or construction waste
  • Hazardous items (paint tins, batteries, light bulbs, gas bottles)
  • E-waste (computers, mobiles, DVD players, TVs)
  • Large sheets of glass, windows, mirrors
  • Asbestos in any form
  • Motor vehicle parts, engines, car batteries, tyres
  • Fence materials
  • Items too heavy for two people to lift
