Why Carpet Removal Is Harder Than It Looks

Old carpet is deceptively heavy and bulky:

You’ll need a trailer or a tip run, and carpet disposal fees at the tip aren’t cheap

  • A single bedroom of carpet weighs 30-50kg once rolled. A full house is several hundred kilos
  • Underlay crumbles and makes a mess — foam underlay in older homes breaks apart as you pull it up
  • Gripper strips around the edges are full of tack nails — they need to be pried up carefully
  • Carpet glued directly to concrete (common in apartments and units) needs scraping
  • The rolls are too big for a standard wheelie bin and most councils won’t take them on kerbside collection

Yes. Stair carpet is fiddly — it’s usually stapled and gripped on every tread and riser. We remove it all including the gripper strips.

We will need to quote it beforehand but we can usually remove glued carpet from concrete floors. The adhesive residue may need scraping depending on what’s going down next — we’ll let you know what to expect.
